Where to Buy All the Other Sushi Ingredients
So you got the fish, but what about nori? You love spicy tuna rolls, right? So where do you get spicy mayo?
If you live anywhere with a major grocery store, you can get all these ingredients in a single aisle. I’m serious. Here’s a picture from the grocery store by where I live:
Okay, so what are the ingredients you’ll want to have for typical American-style sushi:
Nori (seaweed paper) for sushi rolls
Wasabi
Sushi Ginger
Soy sauce for dipping
Short-grain rice
Rice vinegar - for sushi rice
Spicy sauce for spicy rolls (sriracha works fine, but as you make rolls, you can experiment with other sauces)
Spicy mayo for spicy rolls if you want them to be a bit smoother
You also need sugar and salt, which hopefully isn’t hard for you to get almost anywhere in the US (you can even get it at gas stations).
But as far as the Asian basics go? One uninspired group-all-the-pan-Asian-ingredients-in-one-place aisle is all you’ll need.
